Artist Statement
I am a performer, collaborator, and creator who is interested in the intersection of my identities, being an African American female and a modern dancer. Both of these aspects influence the way people see me and how I approach the world. As a choreographer, I draw from personal and historical stories to combine the African American experience, from the female perspective, and modern dance. I am an artist who is inspired to make and perform work that is dynamic, musical, and explores human emotion. As a collaborator, I am interested in how the full-bodied exploration of another mover can influence and adapt a workspace and the people around them. I admire subtlety in a performance and am curious to how it can change a dancers experience and an audience member's perception of a piece. In my work process, I seek to discover the individual within the dancer to produce work that is true to them and my artistic vision.
